My name is Kristen Ratliff and I have begun my third year of graduate doctoral study in Counseling Psychology at the University of Houston. My research interests include health disparities and the bio-psychosocial components of addiction, more specifically, the effects of stress on drug and alcohol use vulnerability. My first experience with ABPsi was this past summer and it was a very positive experience for me. I feel I would be a positive addition to the Student Circle because of my eagerness, excitement, and willingness to be involved and to work to accomplish the goals set forth by the Student Circle. During my undergraduate endeavors it would have been so helpful to have been a part of ABPsi and to be connected to those with common goals and pursuits, therefore I am committed to giving back in that way. For this position I share the vision and goals of the Student Circle leadership in that there would be a commitment to fostering advancement through education. Not only for undergraduate and graduate students, but also for high school students, thus maintaining a commitment to our communities. I feel a personal responsibility to share some of the blessings and opportunities I have been fortunate to have received with other African American students and I feel that the Student Circle would be an amazing platform for me to begin to do so.

Fun Fact: I am a total sports fanatic, namely football and basketball. March Madness is one of my favorite times of the year! : (Go Hoosiers!)
