The 39th ABPsi Annual International Convention

PRESENTER INFORMATION

Greetings 2007 ABPsi Presenters:

The following is being forwarded to your attention for informational and planning purposes only.  We hope that it proves to be beneficial.

Presentation Schedule: For your convenience, here is the link to the final draft of the Convention Agenda with the presentation dates and time for your review.  We have a very dynamic and quite "full" schedule; as such, each presentation will need to start and end on schedule.  Some of you are scheduled to present several times over the course of the convention.  As such, slight changes may have been made to the start time of a presentation to prevent overlap and/or to allow sufficient time for convention attendees to transition from one presentation to the next. Thank you in advance for your understanding regarding this matter. Note: We anticipate the number of persons attending any given presentation to range from 20 to 50.

Poster Presentations: Poster Presenters will have the option of displaying posters on an 8’ skirted table top or posting to a display sized soft board.  A representative from convention planning team will be available to answer any questions that you might have in setting up your poster presentation. Please arrive for set-up at least 30mins prior to your presentation time. Please note: Presenters are required to provide all materials needed for displaying the poster presentations.

MCEP/CEU Presentation:  Persons desiring to receive credit for a MCEP/CEU presentation are required to be present for the duration of the presentation.  You will need to sign the attendance sheet at the both the beginning and end of the presentation. You also will be required to complete an evaluation form.  In taking these requirements into consideration, extra time has been added to the MCEP/CEU presentations.  For example, a three (3) hour presentation may be scheduled for four (4) hours. The extra time will allow for a 15 minute break with sufficient time remaining at the end for completing the evaluation.

AV Equipment: Your request for AV equipment as specified on your abstract cover sheet has been secured.  You will need to have your own laptop for use with the LCD projector.  You also are encouraged to save your presentation(s) on a USB supported flash drive and/or CD Rom as a back up. If you did not indicate the need for AV equipment on your abstract coversheet, we can not guarantee that AV equipment will be available for use during your presentation.  However, if you have access to a personal LCD projector and/or work in a setting where you are able to easily bring a LCD projector, you are encouraged to do so in meeting your AV needs.

Hotel Accommodations: For persons who will be staying at The Doubletree Hotel (overflow hotel), please note that The Doubletree will be providing complimentary shuttle service to the Hilton Americas Hotel.  Please let the receptionist at The Doubletree Hotel know of your transportation needs in advance to ensure that the shuttle will be available. The shuttle service is based upon availability and is on a first come, first serve basis. The Hilton Americas Hotel will facilitate your return to The Doubletree Hotel.   Please Note: Should you need to cancel your hotel reservations for any reason, the first night's deposit is refundable up to 48 hours in advance of arrival. Failure to cancel a reservation will result in a charge equivalent to a one night's stay.

On-site Troubleshooting and/or Concerns: Should you experience any challenges and/or have questions regarding your scheduled presentation while at the Hilton Americas Hotel, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Muriel Kennedy at (843) 532-4173 or Dr. Ischaji Robertson at 786-586-3818.  If they are not available at the time of your call, please know that they will return your call as soon as possible.

Pre-Convention Intervention: A flyer for the African Centered Trauma Initiative: Moving from Lip Service to Community Service with the Host and Guest Communities of Houston Post-Katrina is attached for your convenience.  For more information, please contact Dr. Adanna Johnson-Williams via e-mail at active8.29.05@gmail.com or by phone at (281) 447-9355. This event is endorsed by The Association of Black Psychologists; and there will be opportunities for follow up on Friday, August 3rd at 10:00am during the scheduled symposium.

Thank you for being instrumental to the success of our 39th Annual International Convention as we reclaim and revitalize our communities.  We trust that your experience will be positive and uplifting as you contribute to the positive change that is taking place in the lives of our people through the knowledge that you will be sharing and receiving during the convention.  Please share this email correspondence with your co-presenters; and we will look forward to seeing each of you in Houston !
