LCPP Sessions Sunrise Tribute to Ancestors
A ritual which gives homage to the positive spirit and energy of our ancestors through testimony, spiritual meditation, and fellowship. It takes place at 6:00 am.
The LCPP Presentations provide participants with credits towards making them eligible for LCPP certification.
Jazz Reception at the ASA Academy
Professional Development Workshops
Share refreshments, food, music and fellowship with Oakland community members, staff and faculty of the ASA Academy & Community Science Center, an African centered, independent, nonsectarian, not-for-profit private school at 2811 Adeline Street, Oakland, CA. ASA was founded in 2000 and serves grades 6-9, adding a grade each year until Grade 12. ASA commits to developing African-American and traditionally underrepresented youth into young men and women who exhibit academic excellence, entrepreneurship, self-sufficiency, critical thinking, and the belief in themselves as valuable contributors to society.
Impart skill and knowledge for integration into clinical practice. These workshops are scheduled for one and one half hour (1 1/2), three (3) or four (4) hours, including a question and answer period, completion of pre and post questionnaires, and scheduled breaks when appropriate.
Symposia
Are formatted to allow the interchange and/or discussion of ideas relevant to the convention theme (Not paper-reading sessions). These sessions are scheduled for two hours (120 minutes) including questions and pre and post questionnaires.
Think Tanks Genius of ABPsi: Author’s Fair and Reception
Focus on critical issues of relevance to psychologists and involve an exchange of ideas between participants and presenter(s). These sessions are scheduled for two hours (120 minutes) including questions and answers and completion of pre and post questionnaires. Everyone will have the opportunity to meet and greet the distinguished authors of ABPsi. Autographed copies of their books will be available for sell.
Paper Presentations Luncheon Awards Ceremony
Sessions focus on the author’s contribution to clinical practice, research and/or theory as developed for formal presentation.  The paper session is scheduled for fifty (50) minutes including questions In the Awards Ceremony ABPsi will pay honor to members of the association that have made significant contributions to the field of black psychology in the host ballroom with a plated lunch.
PosterPresentations Luncheon Plenary
Sessions focus on the presentation of the author’s contribution to research or/or theory through illustrative materials displayed on posters. Posters will be on display throughout the length of the convention. The presenter provides all needed materials and remains with his/her poster during specific times of the convention so that viewers may have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas. Luncheon Plenary sessions are formal, motivational presentations on a specific topic held in the host ballroom and usually feature a guest speaker(s) and a plated lunch.
Mbongi Assembly
Mbongi, a Bantu Kongo term, was a way of structurally 1) gathering together the best minds and practices; 2) taking, seizing or accepting responsibility for solving and resolving the problematics of the African community; 3) capturing, critiquing and clarifying those “things which concern us dearly”, 4) exposing the “truth” of our reality as reflected in and represented by our spiritual, intellectual, social and artistic memory and creations; and, 5) uncovering, correcting and utilizing the core meaning and purpose of a people in the service of human development and well-being. The Mbongi Assembly institutionalizes the idea of a community of thinkers and activist having responsibility to take care of the welfare and well-being of its people. Some expected guests include prominent actors, producers, directors, Hip Hop journalists, rappers, and traditional African Healers from Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, and Kongo
