ABPsi's Position Statement on Juvenile Justice
In January 2010, The National African American Drug Policy Coalition, Inc. put out a general request for position statements and op-eds on the issue of juvenile justice issues confronting African American youth. ABPsi is a member of the Coalition, and President-Elect Cheryl Grills prepared a position statement with the help of member Jaime Michel and key board members.
The paper was submitted to Judge Arthur L. Burnett, Sr., Senior Judge - Inactive Status (sabbatical), National Executive Director National African American Drug Policy Coalition, Inc., Howard University School of Law. The Coalition gave 100% endorsement of our position statement! ABPsi's statement was submitted by Judge Burnett with their strong endorsement to Attorney general Eric Holder and Spencer Overton, his principal policy advisor; to Assistant General Laurie Robinson - Office of Justice Programs; to the Acting Administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and delinquency Prevention; to Congressman John Conyers, Chair of the Judiciary Committee; and to Bobby Scott, Chair of the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. Judge Burnett also recommended that our position statement be placed in the Congressional Record. We are currently awaiting their response.
