Jemeg Dees

Immediate Past Chairperson:

Jemeg Dees

My name is JEMEG Dees and I would like to briefly introduce myself. I received my Bachelors from the Univ. of NC at Greensboro, where I majored in psychology and minored in business. I obtained my Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. I also spent two years working as an intern counseling military families. Currently I am a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at Argosy University. My major research interests include African American families, families of color, marital satisfaction, and professional athletes.

As chair-elect my role is to assist the chair, continue to be a liaison between students and professionals, and speak for the interests of student members. In this position I serve as an ear for students’ concerns and a voice for student affairs. During this year I hope to reach more students and receive first hand knowledge of their needs, hopes, and goals as members of ABPsi. One of my goals is to increase student participation and presence in ABPsi. It is my hope that jegnaship between professionals and students in ABPsi is encouraged through conferences and joint activities that would have space for students and professionals to come together, present research, share their ideas, and make connections with one another. Developing young professionals need the jegnaship, or mentorship, of established professionals so that we may continue to carry the mission of ABPsi forward in a manner fitting of those who have come before us. I look forward to working closely with the ABPsi family.
