Applicants are required to use the CAC/BP application for processing all paperwork associated with the CAC/BP application process. Application requirements and certification criteria are subject to change without notice and at the sole discretion of The ABPsi National Board of Directors. The ABPsi will make every effort to give prior notice on The ABPsi website before changes are made.

The Application Process

1. Select one of the following methods to obtain an application.

A. Applications can be downloaded online at www.abpsi.org.
B. E-mailed applications can be requested on our website.
C. Request an automated fax application by dialing (888)74-ABPsi ext. 87 and following the voice prompts.
D. Call our office at (202) 722-0808 to request a form to be mailed, faxed or
e-mailed.

2. Submit the application with all required attachments and the $50 non-refundable application fee.

3. Within 30 days, The ABPsi Licensure, Certification and Proficiency Panel (CPP) will contact applicants acknowledging receipt/acceptance of their applications for review and/or with the necessary steps to complete the application process (if needed).

4. As part of the application process, applicants will be sent The ABPsi CAC/BP Criteria application. The application will include:

• A check sheet for meeting certification criteria in three areas:

  • Skills — developed competencies in African Centered/Black Psychology
  • Knowledge — familiarity of African Centered/Black Psychology that is experentially based
  • Ability — competence in the delivery of African Centered/Black Psychology

• The ABPsi CAC/BP Study Guide and publication list to prepare candidates for the certification examination (waived during the grandfathering application process).

• The ABPsi CAC/BP list of approved educational conferences, programs, and CEUs.

5. Once all criteria are documented and completed, submit the
application, with the $350.00 bi-annual certification fee to:

6. The ABPsi Panel will review your submission and take the following actions:

  • Determine if application meets the established criteria (as of the date received).
  • Contact the applicant if more information is needed to complete the application.
  • Score the application based on established criteria. If the application meets the minimum score, it will be forwarded to the ABPsi Board for approval.

If the application does not meet the minimum score, it will be returned to the applicant with written commentary on how to meet the application criteria.
